🔊 BIG ANNOUNCEMENT (and my problem with the Marvel universe)

Published 10 months ago • 2 min read

The other day I wanted to watch "Guardians of the galaxy 3".

So as usual, I headed for the trailer and it looked good.

Then typically for a trilogy, my next step is to get a recap of the previous movies on Youtube (just type "before watching [movie number X]"). I want to get as much context on it before diving into it. Especially if it's been a while since I saw the previous ones.

Anyway, near the end of the recap I realized that one of the characters died. Problem is, they died in a movie I haven't watched!

You see, as part of the Marvel universe (making up something like 32 movies) the directors had the character die in either a Thor or an Avengers movie.

You get the gist, it's confusing.

Which brings me to my point about world building.

If you're building a universe, you shouldn't force viewers to consume every single thing you do just to keep up with the story.

Instead, what you put out, should complement, not fragment your world and character stories. This goes against the commercial interests of movie production houses of course, but as creators, we should think differently.

Yes we should create our world, as complex and multi-faceted as we want it to be. But our audience needs to be able to orient themselves in it.

🔊This is why today, after a lot of thinking and debating, I'm deciding to go back to a weekly newsletter.

It's been 350 issues from Monday to Friday of the Conversion Alchemy Journal so far, one year and 4 months in. I still enjoy it and it helps me grow and think better. But the feedback I got from a lot of you, is that the experience of a daily newsletter, especially if quite packed like some of these, feels fragmented and a bit overwhelming.

The plan is to keep the Journal going, but once a week and in a slightly different format (work in progress!).

Freeing up time will also help building the Conversion Alchemy universe, so I can work on making more videos and more cool stuff for you (another big announcement coming soon 🫢).

If you enjoyed these emails so far, and even if you just signed up, I think you're gonna love it. Writing weekly will help me collect a ton more ideas and select only the best and most practical ones - so you can use them in your business and life.

Keep an eye out for the first weekly issue this Friday!

Do you have any feedback? I'd love to know! Just hit reply.

Quote and reflection of the day:

“Order-Let all your things have their places: let each part of your business have its time. If Jackson had ever marked his Bible, he would have highlighted the passage in Ecclesiastes that begins: "To every thing there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven: a time to be born, and a time to die; a time to plant and a time to pluck up that which is planted."”

— Stonewall Jackson's Book of Maxims by James Robertson Jr.

Give everything you do it’s own time and space. Don’t rush what feels slow, don’t delay what’s urgent.

Cheers,

Chris
